Hello! I am Rafael Mathias, the Director and lead designer of Uncage and a professional passionate about people's life stories and dreams.
I started working with Interior Design 12 years ago, doing small projects for family and friends. The passion for Interior design became evident, so I engaged in learning new skills and obtaining experience through a variety of jobs.
In 2016, I moved to New Zealand with my lovely wife, Bruna Girardi Velho, aiming build a family and construct an international career. I worked in the shopfitting + Interior Fit Out allowing me to acquire even more experience with different types of materials and shapes.
I inspire my work in design styles which have nature as reference, such as Coastal Design, Hamptons Design, Modern Farmhouse Design and Wabi-Sabi Design.
Born and raised in Brazil, Rafael is son of Luiz Renato Camargo Mathias and Verly Therezinha Giesch Mathias, a hardworking couple who did the best to raise two children through love and discipline. The reason of his success is due to his parents, which did a great job managing the curiosity and creativity of a kid full of energy and ideas.
Creativity is an attribute that is inside his family. His mother, on her spare time, works with Arts & Crafts, crafting dried flowers, candles and vases. And his brother, Leonardo Mathias, is a Sculptor based in Brazil, sharing his work through national and international expositions such as France, Portugal and Chile.
Things I am passionate about:
- Sports in general, specially Tennis.
- Early morning running - Clears the mind and helps to organize my thoughts.
- Reading - I like reading books about self development and self improvement.
- Music - I like all music genres, specially Rock, Classical and Jazz.
- Traveling and Camping - It gets me in contact with nature and recharges the batteries.
